Empowering Oakland's Next Generation Through Computer Science

EMPOWERING YOUTH

Our Mission

All Oakland youth are empowered with skills and knowledge of Computer Science in order to develop and utilize technology in an ethical manner and address the challenges and opportunities of our community and world. In order to fulfill our vision, Oakland youth must experience high-quality Computer Science instruction that is engaging, rigorous, and relevant and have opportunities to apply and develop their skills outside the classroom.

Through CSforOakland We Aim To:

01

Create equitable opportunities for students in elementary, middle, and high school to engage in high-quality Computer Science education, including coordinating the implementation of high-quality courses, programs, and materials.

02

Provide learning opportunities for Computer Science teachers to deepen and improve their practice and provide opportunities for non-Computer Science teachers to learn the fundamentals of computer science and computational thinking so that students may use Computer Science across disciplines.

03

Build the capacity of school administrators, counselors, and district leaders to create the climate and conditions necessary for all students to have access to rigorous Computer Science courses.

04

Celebrate and showcase student achievement in Computer Science with families and community members, and partner with families to advocate for more high-quality, rigorous Computer Science opportunities.

05

Create systems and cultivate relationships among non-profit, post-secondary, and industry partners in order to support authentic learning experiences in Computer Science classrooms and provide students with opportunities to extend their learning outside the classroom.
